Porcelain Veneers

What is a Porcelain Veneer?

A porcelain veneer covers the whole front surface of a tooth - to change the way it looks in your smile! (A bit like a false nail).

What are veneers made of?

These types of restoration are usually made by a laboratory from porcelain. This gives maximum strength and fantastic cosmetic results!

Are there other kinds of veneers?

There are also Composite Veneers, which involve no cutting of the teeth. These are suitable in different circumstances, and one of our dentists can advise you more specifically about this at your free consultation.

Do you have to cut the teeth?

Usually some tooth tissue has to be removed to make space for porcelain veneers - to stop the tooth looking too bulky, or interfering in your bite. On some occasions we don't need to cut the teeth, but one of our dentists can advise you more specifically about this at your free consultation.

Why would I need porcelain veneers?

Veneers are used to create bigger smiles, to correct rotations or crowding in teeth, to make teeth longer, and often to hide the natural colour of a tooth or make your smile brighter. Porcelain veneers are not suitable in all cases, but one of our dentists can advise you more specifically about this at your free consultation.

I already have veneers but I hate how they look!

Older veneers and NHS veneers have often been made with less concern for getting the perfect cosmetic result. They can look very dark/flat in colour, and often have a black line visible where the tooth meets the gum. We can spend much more time creating the perfect smile for you, so whether you need veneers now, or just want to replace your old veneers - we can help you!

How do I care for my veneers?

How long your veneers lasts depends on how well you look after them. You can get decay where the tooth meets the crown/bridge, if you are not keeping it extremely clean. Therefore, it is important to keep this area just as clean as you would your natural teeth (or maybe cleaner!) in order to prevent decay and gum disease affecting the veneers. It is also very important not to scrub your teeth too hard.
